BIKES FOR KIDS

The Children’s Charity of Des Moines (http://www.varietyiowa.com) has selected the Red Oak community to be a benefactor of their “Bike for Kids” program this summer. Variety works with schools and agencies to locate area children to receive a bike and helmet courtesy of individual and corporate sponsors. In addition, police officers conduct bicycle safety instruction and ‘training.’ The “Bike for Kids” day in Red Oak will take place in the Fareway parking lot on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 10:00 am. After initial screening, over forty students were selected to be eligible for a free bike and helmet. Students were required to write an essay or draw a picture to explain how they would take care of a new bike, where they would ride it and how it would help them exercise and stay healthy. Thirty children, ages 5 through 11 are scheduled to receive bikes during the morning events!
