PHYSICAL EDUCATION EXPECTATIONS

You will need a pair of shorts, tee shirt, socks, and a pair of gym shoes.  Students should also have athletic support and wear clothes appropriate for school.  (Handbook)  These clothing items should be different than clothes worn to school that day.  We are trying to form good habits and proper hygiene.  Your grade will be affected if you do not have your P.E. clothes.  The grading scale is a 10-point system based on dress, effort, knowledge, character, and following directions.  Students will be tested on physical skills, knowledge of rules and regulations of games and activities.  Remember students are not graded on their physical ability.  Students who do not bring clothes will be expected to participate during class. After five no clothes days, the student will meet with Mrs. Sims.

10 Point Breakdown

3 pts. – Dress – Proper Clothes for P.E.

3 pts. – Effort and Participation given during class – Warm-up, stretching, activity, and working to improve individually.

2 pts. – Knowledge of sport/activity, understanding one’s body and how it works.

2 pts. – Attitude in class, positive towards others (treat everyone with respect). Follow directions and class rules.

Class Structure

Class structure in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will be to develop the students physically, mentally and emotionally.  Physically we want stronger, more flexible students.  Mentally a student will learn the rules and regulations of a sport and be able to do the fundamentals of that given sport.  Emotionally we want them to grow socially and to incorporate character issues such as responsibility, respect, trustworthiness and sportsmanship.
