Course Description and Objectives:
The purpose of this American History course is to provide students with an understanding of the events and issues that have faced our nation since the close of the Civil War.
Objectives:
1. The students will be able to identify, explain, and understand the importance of significant events in American History.
2. The students will be able to identify, explain, and understand the importance of significant issues in American History.
3. The students will be able to explain social changes in America from the post-Civil War era to the present day.
4. The students will understand various technological advances and economic changes in America from the post-Civil War era to the present day.
5. The students will understand political changes in America from the post-Civil War era to the present day.
6. The students will understand how the various issues that have faced our country in the past have relevance to them today.
7. The students will be able to analyze sources of information and to demonstrate higher order thinking skills.
8. The students will be able to articulate and debate a point of view in a respectful manner.
9. The students will practice and be able to display critical thinking skills.
10. The students will be able to display various communication skills, such as reading, writing, presenting, and working in a cooperative group.

Classroom Expectations

• RESPECT!!! Respect yourself, your peers, your teacher, and your classroom.
• Be prepared for class. Bring all required course materials everyday.
• Be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings. You are tardy if you are not in your seat.
• Remain seated at the end of class until the bell rings.
• Be alive, involved, and ready to learn. I will not tolerate not paying attention, heads down on the desk, or sleeping during class. Actively participate in class; it will be more interesting for everyone if we have everyone engaged and voicing their opinions.
• It is your responsibility to see me about makeup work if you miss school. USE SEMINAR.
• No food or drink in class.

Late Work Policy:
• Homework will be collected at the beginning of class on the due date.
• Late work turned in by the following class period receives 50% credit.
• All work after that, zero credit.
• If you are sick, you get 2 days for the first day gone, and one additional day for each additional day you are absent.

• Be here!!!
• Pay attention in class and ask questions if you need help.
• Complete all assigned work.
• If you need extra help, I will be available before school and after school. I am also available during seminar.
• You and this class are very important to me. I look forward to a great year and will do everything I can to help you succeed. Do not hesitate to ask if there is anything I can do to help you in class.
