Current Environmental Studies topics and projects

As the year begins we learn about the science of environmental studies.  We start with a project out of Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac.  The students have chosen a passage to write about.  They look up animals and plants referenced in the passage and devise a pictograph using either a word document or publisher, then they decide on vocabulary to cover, and finally sentences for the class to respond.  As they are working on their projects off and on in class we continue in the book answering the question:  What is environmental science?

Students are completing their endangered species PREZI project.  A PREZI is a presentation tool that requires the internet but is web based so easy for students to work on at home.  For their organisms the students researched the description, the habitat, the niche, the abiotic needs, and why the organism is endangered.  To view a PREZI go to www.prezi.com and select the explore tab and in the search box type Blom Env St  Many PREZI's will appear some are from this semester and some are from earlier.  Enjoy.

Final project will be the zoo project where students select an animal from the zoo.  It will be a different animal than their endangered project but they will have to research everything mentioned above and add to it information about the biome.

Zoo trip will be December 2.  We are looking for one more chaperone.  Please contact me at 712-623-6610 ext 5303 or by e-mail at blomstedtd@roschools.com, if you are able to come.
