Celebrity Readers Visit Washington!
by Jan Burnison
Washington Intermediate School students were honored on March 2nd with visits from 8 Celebrity Readers in our community. Read Across America was observed in 4th grade with stories by Al Nelson, RO artist; Dari Larsen, Good Samaritan; John Blomstedt, YMCA; and Terry Schmidt, ROCS Superintendent. Reading to the 5th graders were Pastor Fred Pilecki, First United Methodist Church; Joni Ernst, Montgomery County Auditor; Dawn LeRette, Nelson Boylan LeRette Funeral Home and Marilyn Dietz, KCSI Radio.
The WIS students were thrilled to have books read to them by local celebrities and we hope to continue this tradition next year. Read Across America not only encourages students to read books but also unites young and old. Bringing school and community together in this way supports our school mission statement of working together as a team to development the emotional, social and academic potential of each child. We thank each visitor for taking time to share their love of reading with all of us.
