I really enjoyed my high school years—I was involved in many activities, made lasting friendships, and had teachers who served as incredible role models. They built strong relationships, went above and beyond, and made school a place full of positive memories. When it came time to choose a career, I knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps and do the same for future students.

Growing up in Denison, I was familiar with Red Oak and the Hawkeye 10 Conference. I had relatives who graduated from here and spoke highly of the district. I liked the idea of working in a 2A/3A school where I could have a meaningful role without being lost in a much larger system. When I interviewed with Mr. Perrien, I knew this was the right fit—and I’ve been grateful for that decision ever since.

What I enjoy most about teaching in Red Oak is the relationships—with students, families, colleagues, and the community. I’ve been fortunate to have great mentors and coworkers in every building I’ve worked, and I know they value me as both a colleague and a person. Coaching has also been a big part of my career, and I’ve been lucky to work alongside coaches who make the long hours fun and rewarding. Most of all, I love building relationships with students and helping them make the kinds of memories I was fortunate to have in school.

Red Oak is special because of the tremendous support our community gives to kids in every activity and program. We also have a staff that consistently goes above and beyond for students. A few moments that stand out for me include receiving a Sportsmanship Award from the volleyball team at the State Tournament, being selected as the Staff Speaker for the Class of 2022 graduation, and performing lip syncs with colleagues in our Staff Talent & Variety Show. These experiences highlight the spirit of fun, teamwork, and connection that make this district unique.

Outside of school, I enjoy attempting to golf, spending time with my family, and making memories together. My motto is simple: Play hard, have fun, and be a great teammate—because at the end of the day, it’s all about having fun and making memories.
